The Interim National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, has declared that the party remains neutral regarding presidential aspirants ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Amid growing speculation linking prominent political figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, and former Minister of Transport Rotimi Amaechi to the ADC ticket, Senator Mark clarified that the party has not endorsed any individual for the race.
In a statement released on Tuesday through his media office in Abuja, the former Senate President assured Nigerians of a transparent and inclusive internal process under his leadership.
“The ADC has no preferred or favourite presidential aspirant,” Mark stated. “Our priority is to build a platform that resonates with the hopes and aspirations of the majority of Nigerians.”
He emphasised the urgency of national renewal, warning that continued inaction could endanger the future of the country.
“We do not want this great ship called Nigeria to sink. If we fail to rise to the occasion, we risk sinking together,” he said.
Mark reiterated his commitment to internal democracy within the party, saying, “I do not own this party more than any other member. Every member has an equal stake and a role to play in shaping its future.”
He further encouraged Nigerians from all walks of life to take ownership of the party, noting that the ADC aims to offer a credible alternative capable of running true democracy in the country.
“The ADC is committed to doing things differently and restoring public confidence in politics. We are ready to build a party that puts the people first,” he added.
The statement signals a new direction for the ADC as it seeks to reposition itself ahead of the 2027 elections.
