A new chapter has opened in the educational landscape of Ogun West as the Bill establishing the Federal University of Technology, Ilaro (FUTI), has now been officially gazetted, signalling the formal legal recognition of the institution.
The announcement was made by the Paramount Ruler of Yewaland and Chairman of the Ogun State Council of Obas, His Royal Majesty Oba (Dr.) Kehinde Gbadewole Olugbenle, who described the gazette as a monumental achievement for the people of Yewaland, Ogun West, and Ogun State at large.
In a statement, the revered monarch expressed deep gratitude to Distinguished Senator (Aremo) Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (YAYI) for his relentless efforts, advocacy, and unwavering commitment to the actualisation of the long-cherished dream of establishing a federal university in the region.
“That the gazette arrives in the month of Senator Adeola’s birthday makes it even more symbolic,” the statement read. “FUTI’s gazette is the best birthday gift to generations of Ogun West sons and daughters who now have a Federal University to call their own.”
Oba Olugbenle also extended appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his nationalistic leadership and swift assent to the Bill, culminating in its recent publication in the official gazette.
Describing the development as a shining example of what collaborative leadership can achieve, the monarch noted: “This milestone reflects what is possible when a dedicated leader takes action, our royal institutions lend their voice, and the people stand together with hope and determination.”
The establishment of FUTI is expected to accelerate the educational, economic, and social development of the Ogun West Senatorial District, which until now had remained the only district in the state without a federal tertiary institution.
The traditional ruler congratulated the people of Yewaland and Ogun West on this historic achievement and expressed optimism about the swift commencement of academic activities at the university.
The gazetting of FUTI marks a significant step towards full implementation, with stakeholders now eagerly anticipating further announcements regarding infrastructure development, staffing, and admissions.
