The Ogun West chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) is set to host the maiden edition of the Ogun West Youth Summit 2025, in what organisers describe as the biggest youth-focused event in the region’s recent history.
Scheduled to hold on 21 August 2025 at the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, the summit is themed “Breaking the Cycle: The Youth Perspective in Addressing Sociocultural Obstacles and Historical Grievances to Achieve Equity for Ogun West.” Stakeholders say the theme speaks directly to the long-standing sociopolitical and cultural issues affecting the region.
Two eminent personalities have been confirmed as keynote speakers: Dr Abiodun Oluseye and Mr Seun Akinbiyi Ojo SAN. Both are widely respected for their intellectual depth, community service, and commitment to equitable development. Their shared history of active involvement in community building across Ogun West is expected to provide strong direction for the summit’s discourse.
A major highlight of the event will be a panel session featuring five distinguished youths representing each of the five local government areas within Ogun West. They will provide fresh perspectives on the persistent challenges confronting the region and propose pragmatic solutions from a youth-led viewpoint.
The summit will also include robust audience participation, with royal fathers, elder statesmen, political leaders, senior citizens, and faith-based and community organisations expected to contribute their insights and recommendations. Organisers say the goal is to inspire unity, shared vision, and actionable strategies toward the region’s advancement.
Speaking on the significance of the event, Azeem Salako, Chairman of the Organising Committee, described the summit as “a landmark gathering and a defining moment” in the political and developmental history of Ogun West.“We may come to the summit divided,” he noted, “but our hope is to leave with a united vision and renewed resolve to break the barriers that have held us back.”
