A group has called for the Yewa/Awori region of Ogun State to produce the next governor in 2027, throwing its weight behind Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi.
The group cited the region’s perceived marginalization and demanded that it’s time for Yewa/Awori to take the reins of power in the state.
This was stated on Tuesday by the convener of Ogun Visionaries, Hon. Leye Odunjo, who emphasised the need for a unified voice in the zone, citing fragmented leadership and personal ambitions as major obstacles to achieving their goal.
Odunjo declared that he believes that Senator Adeola’s emergence as governor would be a step towards equity, fairness, and justice, given the zone’s long-standing lack of representation in the state’s highest office.
The group’s demand is based on the argument that it’s been a long time since the Yewa/Awori region had a governor, and it’s time for the region to produce a leader who understands its unique challenges and opportunities. Senator Yayi, who hails from the Yewa/Awori region, has been identified as a potential candidate who can deliver the region’s aspirations.
According to him “Yewa Awori zone in the Ogun West Senatorial District is yet to speak with one voice due to fragmented leadership, personal ambitions and the absence of a common front. As 2027 draws near, Yewa Awori stands at a defining moment in its political journey.
The ambition to produce the Governor of Ogun State is valid, heartfelt, and long overdue. But there comes a time in every struggle when wisdom must take the front seat, and emotion must yield to strategy.

“The Visionaries ” is a socio-political organisation that cuts across Ogun State; therefore, they demand that Ogun West produce the next governor of the State come 2027. It is lamentable that the District is the only district that has not produced a governor for the state since its creation in 1976″ Odunjo posited.
“Our group has come together and x-rayed various good quality hands that have shown interest in being governor from the zone, and agreed that the support for Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly called Yayi, will be in the best interest of the Zone and the State in general”.
“For almost five decades now, the Yewa Awori people have been the most marginalised ethnic group in Ogun State in the area of employment, appointment, and
project execution, until recently when Senator Olamilekan Adeola came to our rescue and started changing the narratives”.
“As a Senator representing the district, we have felt his presence in all facets of our people, not only in Yewa Awori Zone, but throughout the entire State”.
Since 1976, Yewa Awori has been lagging behind as it is the only Area in the State without a federal University. Still, we thank God for the doggedness and good representation of our darling Senator for his role in the upgrade of Federal Polytechnic Ilaro to a full-fledged University of Technology.
The group’s declaration of support for Yayi is significant, as it highlights the growing momentum behind his potential governorship bid. With his experience as a senator and his grassroots connection, Yayi is seen as a strong contender for the 2027 governorship election.
The demand for Yewa Awori’s turn to produce the governor has sparked a lively debate about the need for rotational leadership and the importance of giving each region of the state a chance to produce a governor.
As the 2027 election approaches, it’s likely that this issue will continue to be a major talking point in Ogun State politics.
