Vice Chancellors from across Nigeria have pegged the minimum cut-off mark for university admissions at 150 for the 2025 academic year. The decision was reached on Tuesday during the annual policy meeting organised by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in Abuja.
The cut-off, which applies to all universities nationwide, means that no institution is permitted to admit candidates who score below 150 in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, who presided over the meeting, explained that while 150 serves as the general benchmark, individual universities retain the autonomy to set higher cut-off marks in line with their academic standards and competitiveness.
Some top-tier institutions, including the University of Ibadan, Pan-Atlantic University, and the University of Lagos, have opted for a minimum score of 200 for their admission processes.
The meeting, which brought together Vice Chancellors, Rectors, Provosts, and other key stakeholders in the education sector, also reviewed the general admission timeline and performance trends from the 2025 UTME.
