Tragedy struck along the Papa-Ilaro Road on Monday as four occupants of a tricycle were crushed to death by a hit-and-run truck driver near Oke Iganmu.
The tricycle, bearing registration number DED 425 WB, was reportedly run over by a speeding truck whose driver fled the scene after the fatal crash.
Spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State, Florence Okpe, confirmed the incident in a statement released on Monday. She noted that all four passengers—two male adults and two female adults—died on the spot.
Okpe stated, “The crash involved a yellow tricycle with registration number DED 425 WB and an unidentified vehicle. It was a hit-and-run case. The suspected causes of the crash were speeding and dangerous driving.”
The corpses of the victims have since been deposited at the State Hospital morgue in Ilaro.
Reacting to the incident, the Ogun State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Akinwumi Fasakin, extended condolences to the families of the deceased and urged motorists to exercise caution and prioritise safety on the roads.
